John Wilson was born in Colorado and has an extensive background in construction. As an artist he is self-taught and he has an affinity for reusing materials. A constant thread in his art is the use of common graphic images placed out of context, and recycled, reconstructed, disassembled tools and electronics. His collaboration with members of the San Francisco Artist community resulted in several large-scale metal art projects that have been shown internationally. His current work in Virginia focuses on large-scale sculpture that includes movement as a significant dimension.

Suzun Hughes is Philadelphia-born painter and photographer. Her abstract acrylic paintings explore the ideas and emotions that lie beneath the surface of our consciousness. She is currently working on a photographic guidebook to the remaining covered commercial passages in the city of Paris. Hughes studied painting and printmaking at the San Francisco Art Institute after graduating from San Francisco State University’s Multimedia Studies Program and received her B.A. from Villanova University. She has been published in Fjords, Arts and Literary Review and Attitude Magazine (Brooklyn NY).

The artists (Wilson & Hughes) having been based in San Francisco since the 1960’s and 70’s respectively, moved to Virginia in 2007. They currently maintain a gallery and their respective studios in historic, downtown Roanoke. Wilson & Hughes dedicated an exterior wall of their gallery building to curated graffiti projects, and show nationally and internationally known artists on an annual basis. They are formative members of the downtown Art by Night program, and were instrumental in creating the Downtown Roanoke Arts District where they reside. Both artists have resided in Paris, France at the Cite Internationale des Arts in 2011,2012 and 2013, and have received the 2011 Grant for Artists Program from the Arts Council of the Blue Ridge, Roanoke VA.
